This is Yakira or Kiki as she is known. A special female handicapped African cheetah with a whole lot of personality. It was unfortunate, but both of her shoulders were crushed by her mother as a cub. Multiple surgeries were not enough to prevent a permanent handicap as a result. She is still a cheetah at heart and does not know she is limb challenged and does not consider herself a cripple. She plays, runs, purrs, grooms, jumps up, rests on the couch and even a tiny dog or kitty cat bed!\r
\r
I spent my volunteer time sharing the same house and property with Kiki but rarely saw her. These are some clips I found interesting showcasing Kiki.\r
\r
She is an inspiration for anyone who lives with a physical handicap. Though she can never live like a wild cheetah, that does not stop her from being who she is. a wonderful and beautiful giant cheetah; bursting with personality. I capture her and her best friend (a black lab), resting on some chairs. one with tiny dog bed and shes overflowing in it. Next, she jumps is on top of my car after I came home one evening.\r
\r
I didnt meet her but three times but even those moments were special for me. She is a nice tamed cheetah who is taken care of by some special owners who paid for her surgeries and have accepted her as a rescue for the rest of her life. You can tell she enjoys her existence despite her handicap.\r

Here is a comment from the owners of Kiki with more details of their project to rewild and release cheetahs.\r

From Elizke Gouws\r
Kiki (Yakira) is owned by Elizke & Desmond Gouws from Running Wild Conservation, where we contribute to the releasing of wild life back into the wild where they belong. The only place where breeding takes place for the sole purpose of rewilding and releasing.\r
\r
Kiki has a big camp where she spent most of her day, and comes into the garden at night where she sleeps with her favorite companion, Gina, a black labrador. Occasionally she will enter the house, especially when it rains outside, and she will make herself comfortable anywhere, even in the domestic cats basket. Her 3 sibling sisters were also raised by us, and been now released into a reserve where they live as free wild cheetahs, as they are meant to be. Wish Kiki could have that freedom but unfortunately she will never survive.\r
\r
Please follow us on Running Wild Conservation and follow our journey as we are about to move to our new premises, a beautiful game farm where we will continue our reintroduction program for wild animals. \r
\r
Kiki also has her own facebook page.\r
(Yakira the Princess Cheetah) feel free to follow her.\r
